Revivals Are Dead

I have just finished a busy June and July, preaching in eleven different churches and ten of those were revival meetings.  I have had busy summers for the past several years in revival meetings.  I have witnessed true revival, renewal, and refreshing.  I love these summertime meetings.  It’s been daylight till almost nine, people have been happy to be at church, the music has been upbeat, and the crowds have been great.  There have been people saved, lives rededicated, and hope restored.

But I hear it again and again.  “Revivals don’t work anymore.”  And I am sure revival meetings won’t work just anywhere.  And I understand if the members of the church won’t attend there’s no use in having a meeting when no one is coming.  I understand all that.  What I am saying is, revivals are not completely dead.  There are folks in our churches who are hungry for an awakening…a reviving…a fresh stirring and moving of the Holy Spirit.  And as the Bible is preached and God speaks and people respond…occasionally something special happens.

I am a revival preacher.  I love revival meetings.  I enjoy revival singing.  When I pull into the parking lot of a church where I am about to preach in a revival service, all my worries disappear.  For an hour or two all is well with my soul.  In that revival setting I am shut off from all the troubles of the world.  There’s no place I’d rather be than on that front pew about to preach…and then to stand and deliver a message that literally changes lives.  The Gospel of Christ is God’s power to save…

This is just a brief blog today saying God is still speaking and working and saving.  And he is still using revival meetings even though they don’t work anymore.  I am honored and humbled that He allows me to be involved.  My plans are to preach as long as there is an open door…  I’m thankful for all the prayers, encouragement, and opportunities to preach.  MM
