Michael & Dawn December 2019 Newsletter

Friends,                                                                                              I can’t believe I’m already typing the December newsletter.  Wasn’t too long ago it was December 2018.  That being said, what an amazing year it has been.  Not only have I had a busy year preaching revival meetings and Dawn has been busy speaking for women’s ministries, it has also been a busy year for our family.  Together we have five children and four grandchildren.  In 2019 Alyssa and Will moved back to Decatur, Garrett married Courtney, Jordan (Magnolia) married Isaac, Grayson became engaged to Bailey, and Garrett and Courtney gave us a new grandson, Levi.  No news from Hunter, Anna except their girls, Harper and Hattie, just get prettier every day.
2019 has been another blessed and busy year.  When 2019 is complete, I will have preached in 52 churches in revivals, conferences, retreats, and special events.  I look forward to 2020 and all that God has in store for me.   Dawn’s speaking schedule is looking busy for early 2020.  God has used her greatly at the conferences this year.  I encourage you to give her a call for your next ladies event.
Merry Christmas… We wish each of you a Merry Christmas as you celebrate the birth of Christ.  He is Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
If you’d like to have me or Dawn speak at your church… I’m available for revival meetings, revival days, retreats, conferences, etc. Dawn is interested in speaking at any women’s events you may be planning.  And we are also available for couples events.

Michael Mason Ministries November 2019 News

Friends....I trust you’re doing well.  If you’re like me, you’re looking forward to Thanksgiving.  While I certainly look forward to all the good food, I am also excited about spending time with my family.  We have so much to be thankful for.  I am thankful for an amazing family, a beautiful wife, wonderful children and grandchildren, and more blessings than I can count.  I am also thankful for friends, too many to count, who love me more than I deserve. I’m blessed.

Stumps

John 10:10 "The thief's purpose is to steal and kill and destroy.     `  My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life." NLT

I can look out our front window and see a stump.  It was only last year, where now sits a stump, that a tall, shady, hickory tree stood.  But one day her leaves began to turn brown.  And, within a week of summer heat, the tree was obviously dead.  What was the cause?  Drought and a large population of carpenter ants.  The tree is dead and gone, regardless of the reason for its demise.  I remember the day we cut the tree.  I didn’t want to cut it, hoping there might be a little life left in it.  And besides, that tree was at least fifty years old.  Suddenly, fifty years of life and shade and beauty were on the ground.  The next step was to cut it up and remove it from the yard.  Now what’s left is a stump, a reminder of what was.

I’m not necessarily a tree hugger, but I wanted to paint a picture of what happens to a fallen believer.  Like that old tree, one day you begin to notice changes in a friend who has been a Christian for years.  They’ve been the epitome of faithfulness and consistency.  But one day, something happens and they’re never the same again.  Maybe they’ve faced some kind of drought in their life with the sudden absence of a loved one, the absence of someone to care for, and suddenly they feel as if they’re no longer necessary.  Or it could be something eating away at them from the inside, like those ugly carpenter ants eating away at the inside of our old hickory.  How does that happen?  Remember, Satan is more subtle than any creature the Lord made and he knows how to bring deception and discouragement better than anyone.  Discouragement can lead to despair.  Despair can lead to depression.  And the leaves begin to turn brown.

Maybe you once stood tall and strong, but someone began to cut you down through criticism and comparisons.  “You’re never gonna make it…You’re not good enough…You need to be more like him…You need to be more like her…”  Someone was used as a tool in the hand of the Devil to bring you down.  That fifty year old tree in our front yard was brought down in less than a minute.  And many a good man has been brought down in less time than that through rumors, speculation, not so innocent prayer requests, and outright lies.  When someone starts a rumor, someone else will believe it.

I heard he has a short temper.

I was told she couldn’t be trusted.

I heard he was fired.

I was told she is having an affair.

I heard he is hard to work with.

I was told she is addicted to prescription meds.

I heard he is seeing a counselor.

Rumor is, they’ve got problems.

Be careful what you say about someone.  Your words could be the chainsaw that cuts someone down to nothing more than a stump.  What you heard and what you were told may be no more true that what was heard and told about you.  When you rumor and mock someone else’s problems you’re not just making light of their struggles, you are affecting someone’s life, their well-being, their peace of mind, and their family.  Don’t be a part of making a stump out of someone who once stood tall.

While it is one thing to be made a stump through criticisms and comparisons, it’s another thing completely to be brought down by the Devil himself.  Satan is quite crafty at cutting us down through temptation and traps.  After you’ve fallen, it’s the hope of the enemy to grind whats left of your life down to nothing.  He not only wants to cut you down, he wants to remove your your stump.  How’s he do that?  Let your imagination run with mine because, chances are, you’ve been there.  After you’ve sinned you are then faced with the guilt of what you did.  Satan whispers, “It’s your fault….You gave in….You did the unthinkable….You compromised….You’re guilty.”  That’s why it’s so good to know God’s grace is sufficient for whatever we have done.  Regardless of where I’ve been, where I’m going, or where I am, His mercies are new every morning.  He knows where I am, and what I’ve done, and He’s not surprised.  While God certainly allows us to reap what we have sown, He also stands ready to extend enough grace to cover any and every sin.

May the Lord bring new life from an old stump.

Michael & Dawn October 2019 Newsletter

Friends,
Hope you’re doing well. As I type this letter I am finishing up six weeks of Revival meetings in which I have been amazed and blessed.  I read that revival meetings don’t work anymore.  They may not work in every church, but they still work in some churches.  I have witnessed the power of God as He has saved lost people, forgave and restored prodigals, revived churches, and gave hope to those in despair.  Revivals aren’t dead… Churches are dead… That’s why we need revival!
Charles Finney said, “Revival is nothing more than a new beginning of obedience to God.”   We often pray for God to do something…but maybe we (I) need to do something.  Where in my life do I need a new beginning of obedience?  Where have I become complacent?  May God start the fire in me…and may I be faithful to fan the flame.
Dawn and I will be in El Salvador the first week of November participating in a Pastors Conference.  We will both be speaking.  Thank you for your prayers…and thanks to those who have helped pay our expenses.
If you’d like to have me or Dawn speak at your church… I’m available for revival meetings, revival days, retreats, conferences, etc. Dawn is interested in speaking at any women’s events you may be planning.  And we are also available for couples events.

Black Eyes

I remember my first black eye.  You’d think after 18 years of living I would have already gotten that black eye in a fight, a bike wreck, falling out of a tree, playing football, etc.  But that’s not the way it happened.  At 18, I was laying under my car working on the exhaust when…the wrench slipped, the muffler fell, and suddenly I had a shiner.  I didn’t cry but I thought about it.

Just so happened I was already invited to a prom that next Friday night.  Perfect.  Actually, I kind of enjoyed that black eye.  Kind of proud of it.  I was never a tough-guy, but for a couple of weeks I looked like one.  The prom pictures made it even better, at least for a temporary tough-guy.  Several people asked about it but I just laughed it off and told them it was a long story.  For all they knew I had been in a fight.  I didn’t have the guts to tell them I’d been hit in the eye by a muffler on a ‘74 Mustang.

I meet people every week who have a black eye of some kind.  Unlike my shiner from many years ago, their's won't go away.  It goes with them everywhere they go.  What caused it?  A number of things… a bad choice, living for the moment, a party, some beer, a wreck, a baby, a lie, got caught, got fired, went to jail, and the list goes on.  And while that foolish decision was some 20, 30, or 40 years ago, they still wear the black eye.  Why?  People don’t forget and too often won’t forgive.

And here is the sad truth, with many of those who can’t outlive their past…there’s always more to the story.  And, there’s a real possibility that the black-eyed man we can’t forgive is having a hard time forgiving himself.  He’d like to go back and re-do or un-do what he did.  She would like to re-write her story and leave that chapter out.  But they can’t.  So they live with it.  She lives with the whispers behind her back.  He lives with the raised eyebrows.  And they both live with the memory.

At this point, they don’t need our advice or suggestions, criticism or comments.  They just need grace.  Forgiveness.  Hope. All of that is found in Christ but sometimes He uses people like us to show it and extend it.  In 2 Corinthians 12:9 the Lord said to Paul concerning his thorn in the flesh, “My grace is sufficient for you…”  In Galatians 6:1 Paul encourages believers restore those who have been overtaken in some sin, some fault.  I’m not suggesting we condone what they did – I’m just suggesting we should forgive.  It may not be easy – but forgiving will help them, and it will help us, and it will please the Lord.

Do you know someone with a black eye?  Trust me they already know it.  No need to remind them of it.  Just extend grace.  Forgive. Give them a reason to hope.  -MM

Michael Mason Ministries July 2019 Newsletter

I heard about a man who talked with his pastor about a temptation he was struggling with.  He was tempted with a beautiful lady who sat near the water fountain where he worked.  Every time he went to get a drink he was tempted with thoughts and feelings he shouldn’t be having.  The preacher had one bit of advice: Stop going to the water fountain.  That’s a good word… Many of the decisions we make that either draw us close to God or pull us away are common sense.  Change the channel.  Look away.  Don’t say it.  Don’t repeat it.  Don’t buy it. Sometimes the best thing you can do is just stay away from the water fountain.

June 2019 Michael Mason Newsletter

…..Years ago I heard a message by pastor Jack Hyles entitled, Acknowledge Him.  That message proved to be a turning point for my life.  Based on Proverbs 3:6, he inspired and encouraged me to acknowledge God in everything.  He also helped me see a fence down the middle of that verse.  One side of the fence is God’s and the other is mine.  I can’t do God’s job and He can’t do mine.  The fence that Pastor Hyles helped me see is divided between, “In all your ways acknowledge Him,” and, “He will direct your paths.”  My job is to acknowledge Him.  His job is to guide my paths.  I’ve never forgotten that…  There have been times, however,  when I tried to do God’s job.  Maybe I didn’t like where His path was taking me.  Maybe I didn’t like the road ahead.  In either case, I had decided that I knew better than God.  I have learned, in big decisions or in small, I do well to stay on my side of the fence.
I’m Having a busy and blessed 2019… Thanks for your prayers and encouragement.  If you’re interested in helping support the ministries God has given me, pray and give as God leads you.  If you are interested, there is a link on my web page where you can give online.  Just click on the link and follow the steps.  Thank you.

Michael Mason Ministries May 2019 Newsletter

I hope you’re doing well.  2019 is going great!  Here it is mid-May and almost mid-2019.  I am thankful for the busy and blessed preaching schedule the Lord has given me.  Every open door is an opportunity to see a life changed and a church revived.  I’m pressing on…
Adrian Rogers said:
Be faithful in the small things. If you'll be faithful in the small things, the big things will take care of themselves. The big things in life are made up of little acts, little words, and little thoughts. Use integrity in the small things.    Be faithful in the secret things. What you are in secret is what you are. I'm talking to those who travel a lot and go into motels…Nobody's in there but you and Jesus. There are many things done in secret that no one would ever know.  Be faithful in the secret things.   Be faithful in the sacred things. Be faithful to meet with God. Do you know how to have faithfulness? Not by resolution, not by gritting your teeth, but by abiding in Him. Come to Him; be committed to Him; surrender to Him; yield to Him; and God will make you faithful.

Michael Mason Ministries April 2019 Newsletter

I hope you’re doing well.  2019 is going great and looking to be an amazing year in ministry.  El Salvador was a success. While I was there, I taught seminary classes each day and preached in a restaurant on Monday and in two churches on Wednesday and Thursday nights.  Was a good week.  Thanks for your prayers and financial support that allowed me to go.
Elizabeth Elliot said, “Spiritual strongholds begin with a thought.  One thought becomes a consideration.  A consideration develops in to an attitude.  Attitudes lead to actions.  Actions become habits.  A habit establishes a power base for the enemy – which is a stronghold.”  Friends, I see  strongholds everywhere.  In churches, in families, in pastors, and even in my own life.  In 2 Cor. 10:3-5 Paul said the only way to deal with a stronghold was to tear it down.  And we do that with weapons that are mighty through God, which I believe are prayer and the Word of God.  And I would remind you that Peter said in 1 Peter 5:8, “Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary  the Devil walks about as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour.”  The enemy is real and in these last days he will destroy all he can.  Guard your heart!

If you’re interested in helping support the ministries God has given me, here and abroad, pray and give as God leads you.  If you are interested, there is a link on my web page where you can give online.  Just click on the link and follow the steps.  Thank you.
If you’d like to have me speak at your church, I’m available for revival meetings, harvest days, retreats, conferences, etc. Dawn is also available and interested in speaking at any women’s events you may be planning.  And we are also available for couples events.
